Inspired by the William Gropper murals in the U.S. Post Office in Freeport, Marc Josloff dreamed of having one of his artworks ensconced in a local public institution as a legacy for his hometown. Our Freeport, a three-panel mural, portrays the people and places of our great village since the mid-1600s. Marc's objective was to give each viewer an immediate sensation about what Freeport life must have been like via an impressionistic use of line, color, tonal range, and composition.
Rather than concentrating on minute details, Marc instead strived to create suggestive imagery, with the hope that all those who view the mural, both children and adults, will get an emotional connection with the village in which they live.
Note: Our Freeport is based solely on verifiable information verified by documentation, including extant photographs of people, places, and things associated with Freeport's past. No content that would have to be presumed or fabricated has been included.
For a key and more information about the people and places depicted in the mural, please view or download the Mural Brochure.
